Tech tips

The purpose for these few pages is to share best and proven practices with inexperienced climbers (although more experienced climbers can also refresh some of their knowledge) about the basics of sport climbing.

  • What gear to bring?
  • How to belay properly?
  • Which errors to avoid while climbing?
  • What is the sequence to set up the rope for lowering from the top of the route?
  • What to do if I don’t reach the top of the route?

As always in climbing and mountaineering, there isn’t only one single way of achieving the same result and climbers should be ready to adapt to local conditions and equipment. However, techniques described hereafter are proven, unambiguous, simple and should cover most if not all cases found in sport climbing.

These tips and manuals come in addition to:

  • Getting training and practice in the techniques of the activity: ask your instructor!
  • Carefully reading the Instructions for Use of the products associated with the proposed techniques
  • The environment and the activity itself are inherently dangerous. You are responsible for your own
    actions and decisions
